Czech It Out – Fun Facts for Your Students Before the Trip

Want to build excitement for your school trip to Prague before you even pack your bags? These fun facts and quirky tidbits are perfect for sharing with your students in class, via email, or even on the bus ride to the airport.

You never know – they might come in handy during one of our travel quizzes on the trip!

🏰 Czech Prague Castle

With more than 2,000 castles, châteaux, and ruins, the Czech Republic has the highest number per square kilometer in Europe. Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle complex in the world – and your group will explore it on Day 2!

🤖 The word „Robot“ is Czech

The word robot was first used in a 1920 play by Czech writer Karel Čapek. It comes from the word robota, meaning forced labor. So next time someone says “I feel like a robot,” tell them they’re speaking Czech without knowing it.

🍺 Beer Nation

Yes, Czechs are famous for their beer – and proud of it! But don’t worry, our student-friendly programs stick to lemonade and delicious Czech snacks.

🧙‍♂️ The Golem of Prague

Legend has it that in the 16th century, a rabbi created a creature out of clay to protect the Jewish community. This Golem lived in the attic of the Old New Synagogue – and you can still visit the site during your trip.

💸 Not the Euro

Czech Republic has its own currency: the Czech koruna (CZK). One euro is about 25–27 CZK. It’s a great chance for students to practice currency conversion and budgeting (and maybe buy a „trdelník“ or souvenir).
